crickets

I spent this weekend at church for Stinky Sunday. We arrived in the afternoon, ate BBQ dinner, played a bunch of really fun games, sang songs around the campfire, roasted marshmellows, and my favorite part-- met new people and got to know people I didn't know well. All before spending the night (a.k.a camping) and having breakfast together in the morning and church service outside under the oak tree.

When I was laying in my sleeping bag getting close to falling asleep, I noticed how beautiful the crickets sounded. Have you ever wondered if the crickets know they are chirping? That's what they were made to do, but do they even hear it? Do they know what beautiful music they make when they chirp together?

I wonder what we little humans sound like when we do what we're made to do. Do we sound beautiful in God's ears? When we all do what we're made to do ("chirp") together, do we make exquisite sounding symphonies for our King? I like to think that in heaven, we will hear brand new sounds--music that we could never begin to imagine. Maybe some day we'll hear what it sounds like when we little crickets do what we're made to do and do it together in unison.

Thanks for sharing. As much as it's up to me, I'll do my part to fulfil that vision.

Chirp chirp! (that's my corny cricket speak for "Beautiful post". Sorry, that's all the cricket language I've picked up)

have you ever heard just one cricket chirping? Sometime they get stuck in our house and it takes forever for us to find him because his chirp echoes throughout the vaulted ceilings of our house. It's an ear-piercing annoyance. Crickets sound so much better when they are outside in their element chirping with other fellow crickets. Now that's music. I wonder if that is the same for us...when we try to do something on our own and end up in a place we're not meant to be. I wonder if our potential song becomes an awful solo that needs the mike turned off. We are meant to live in community and only then will our symphony come to life.

Oh my sweet Jesus! Kristie, that was awesome. As in A-W-E-S-O-M-E. I think you're starting to think like me. Uh oh, be careful, it's a very scary place to be! Much love. Thanks for taking me deeper.
